Volunteer, Fieldwork and Internship Opportunities

On September 13, 2004 , after seven years of research and assessment, community efforts led to creation of the Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale (BGCC). Students of SIUC have a unique opportunity to participate in the area's newest and largest youth development program for children ages 6-18. With over 600 registered members, BGCC serves over 100 children a day after school on Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. , along with extended summer programs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America are dedicated to "inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens."

University students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in program leadership, team building, special event planning, scheduling, and supervision in one or more of our core program areas which include:
• Sports, fitness, and recreation
• Character and leadership development
• Education and career development
• Life Skills training

The Arts Students will have the chance to design and present direct program services with the assistance of staff and volunteers using Club resources that include our 9,000 square foot gym, game room, computer lab, learning center, teen room, arts & crafts center, classrooms, and outdoor areas.

We welcome students in any relevant field of study including (but not limited to):
• Social Work and Sociology
• Education and Curriculum Development
• Special Education and Psychology
• P.E., Health Education, and Recreation
• Art Education and Music
